I don't really get thousands of dollars in maintenance so I'll spend a thousand dollars a month on a car payment... I mean, at some point it's just not worth it to keep dumping in money in a car that isn't that nice any longer, but a few thousand for something as epensive as a 7 series isn't much.

35k isn't going to get you a whole lot luxury-wise new, so unless she wants to take a large drop in status symbol used is the obvious route. LS460 would be a stretch at that price, but that'd be my first choice. Acura RL or Hyundia Genesis, more affordable bit of a step down in luxury. The G37, while a nice car, isn't really all that luxury, especially not in comparison to something like a 7 series. If she's wanting something a bit more lively, go for it.

If she's coming out of a 7 series why not give a Hyundai Genesis sedan a look? Or maybe a Toyota Avalon even.

^ I suggested the genesis but she wants something more sporty. She's now undecided between the g37 and 370z. She's contemplating the need for a back seat or not..

The G37 sounds like a good choice then. I guess there's always the IS350, it's a bit more on the luxury side. Still no 7 series, but closer than a G37 or 370Z. But, if the priority is fun the 370Z is the clear winner. There's not really much advantage to the IS350 over the G37 coupe if the backseat is important. Both are pretty much useless for adults and quite adequate for children and as a storage shelf. If an adult friendly back seat is important I'd still put the G37 sedan at the top of the list. It might be worth a look at the TSX, TL, CTS, Buick Regal, and maybe the Taurus SHO. But those are in an entirely different direction.
