TTs arent very fast stock. if it didnt have a FMIC, then chances are its not an upgraded turbo. if you didnt hear a loud BOV, im sure its not running low 12s (usually cars running those times will have atmospheric BOVs). 21psi is probably on the tiny stock turbos. dont let psi fool you, psi is relative to turbo size. i.e. - you could have a tiny T25 turbo pushing 22psi, and a PT61mm turbo running 12psi, and depending on the car, the PT61 could be running more power at a lower psi. think of the evo, everyone thinks 19-21psi is like "OMG SO MUCH BOOST" but that turbo is so tiny, it needs to make 20psi just to get the evo to 225whp (stock). bottom line is, torque makes cars feel faster; which is why domestic owners think their cars are so much faster than ours, when in reality, not all of them are...

also, chips do a lot for german/turbo cars - thats probably why it felt 'fast' - also, did it have an aftermarket exhaust? no exhaust...def not in the 12s.

Psi means nothing. A friend of mine owns a trucking company, and I went to his truck shop last week. He keeps his 240 there, but I saw one of the trucks motors (turbo)...and found out they boost about 109psi. The turbo is probably a little smaller than the s2000 motor.

Funny thing is, one of their top drivers told me that brand new trucks, without a trailer, and very fast....like 0-60 in the 8 second range....

So basically, a TT = Mack truck.

Chipped 1.8T's feel fast.
A good friend has a chipped 03' GTi and I know about a dozen more guys in the local Audi club with all kinds of variations on modified 1.8T's.

There is turbo lag for sure, but they are still all kinds of fun on the street. Are they outright the fastest? No way, but who the hell cars. These are road cars, not track cars.
VW / Audi / Skoda / Seat don't make a track car with a 1.8T.

They are fun, if you like fun, you can like a 1.8T.

That is unless you are too green with envy over the 2.0T.

PS: Note - I have niether a 2.0T or 1.8T (NA Road car for me)

8 seconds ????

That would be tuff considering big rigs usually have like 13 gears or more.

But I get what you are saying though.

And to anyone thinking about getting an Audi, you might want to have an allotment
set up for the maintainance cost.

[QUOTE=dr_sharp,Mar 1 2006, 09:53 PM] On the enterance ramp I checked the (stock) boost gauge and it held a steady 21psi once spooled.

My B5 S4 felt as strong as my BPU supra when I first drove the thing. I knew it was just an illusion. Small turbos give instant torque. To really tell you should put it on a freeway and do a run from 60-110mph. Little turbos on an Audi will run out of steam in the higher RPMs.

They do not come with any boost gauge stock. At least there was none in my 2001 that I used to have. It certainly was fun when hit 2500-3000 rpm and the turbo spooled up and BANG you are off like a rocket. Sort of like the bump when the vtech at 6000 rpm but stronger.

I still miss mine sometimes but I had too many problems and it was always in the shop.
There is no way this was aftermarket... it was in the center of the dash above the radio and ac controls. Did you own the 180hp (5speed) or 225hp (6speed) version? Maybe it was an option?
