Modern "s2000"

Additionally, the rest of your description took me a second to figure out you were describing the amg and not a ferrari.
And I used the McClaren f1 as a metaphor.
Let's just agree to disagree that the amg gt is the new s2000.
The miata has more on common with the s2000 than a six figure German halo car.

You’ll have to give me that there’s more in common between the two chassis. Drive one and you’ll see.
I’d argue that the California is not closer. They’re good, but they’re not thAt good... muted inputs, flashy Italian design language. Even larger MSRP’s. The GT is closer in presentation. And, in spirit.
It’s obvious that there’s a broad delta. But, the cars were both engineered with a similar philosophy, by the best of the best, in each of their time periods. Both with elegant style that will age well. This all culminates in cars that behave in very much the same way, both on the limit and around town.

Muted inputs? You must be crazy; maybe compared to an Exige. The steering rack is pretty quick and that V8 is the same as the 458. I didn't know MSRP was limiting factor? I thought it's more the way they drive and look would be the association.
The California is a for the same kind of driving experience as the S2000 is, but on much higher level. The same could said for the Aston Martin Vantage Volante's.
