NEW VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R RECEIVES HORSEPOWER BOOST, YET USES LESS FUEL

- New car has 296 horsepower, but is 18 percent more fuel efficient
- New TSI® 2.0-liter engine propels DSG®-equipped Golf R from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds
- Car features new 4MOTION® all-wheel drive system
- With the DSG transmission, Golf R has European Cycle combined fuel economy of 34 mpg
- On sale in Europe in late 2013

Wolfsburg, August 2013 — This is the year of the Golf. The first six months of 2013 have already seen the European debuts of the new Golf GTI, Golf GTD, Golf Variant, and Golf TDI BlueMotion. Volkswagen is continuing its Golf product offensive with the flagship of the model series—the new Golf R. Pretty sure I'd take this over an STI any day. For a daily driver, definitely take it over an Evo, too!

That's a little presumptive, but with 225 series rubber all around you're probably right. Still with equal sized tires it doesn't take much to outhandle an STI, EVO on the other hand is a different story.

One can hope that the new 4motion is advanced enough to help it handle like an EVO while retaining the hatchback practicality of the STI.. We will see.

and still isn't a boy racer. and still is a better DD. and still has a better interior. and still isn't made of plastic shit on the inside

Golf R's aren't about sheer performance. The GTI/Golf R never was a top performer. They were always about the overall package.

you had to say it 3 times?

Resale on the Golf R & GTI is pretty good actually. & reliability isn't the only factor when looking at a car. Shit your acting like STIs are dead reliable
