I would also vote for the jeep. The 4.0 just goes forever.

Just helped my boss at work pick up a 1993 Cherokee with the 4.0. It still had tons of grunt with 180k+ miles. I liked it. I think I would've liked it more if the shocks weren't dead.

I vote for the Bronco, but only for the OJ factor.

I'd go for jeep, runs forever, parts cheap, cheap to repair, massive aftermarket, massive used makret. Broncos are cool too, but the jeep is like the civic for offroaders.

In addition to my S2K, I have a 96' 2WD, two door, base model Cherokee. I've had it around three years now and drive it about half the time. It has 153,000+ miles and the engine is strong as ever. Knock on wood, but it has zero leaks and zero oil burned. Like others said, that 4.0 inline six is bulletproof.

Personally I've always had a soft spot for jeeps. It's fun to take off the roof and doors and just burn down to the beach

My wife's parents had an old 4.0 that we used to borrow. My father in law didn't mind swapping the s2000 for that thing! It was a 5 speed too, the shifter was like a garbage truck, haha.

All in all, very fun, much more fun than a bronco would be, if only because you can unscrew the entire damn thing with a screwdriver.

whops nevermind, I just re-read that you wanted a cherokee, not a wrangler.

Anyways, go with a wrangler!

I'd love to get a wrangler but they cost like twice that of cherokee for used ones. And can't really justify it since it is a winter beater and both will do the same thing. Like both of them though. Just hate the grand cherokee.
