miatas lose value so fast
is that b/c mazda makes too many miatas? dealers still have brand new 03s sitting on the lots, and selling for $8.5k off MSRP. that's 1/3 off on a new car??????? even 04s have incentives and rebates up the wazoo.

The Miata is still a great car and a heck of a lot of fun to drive. Sure the S2000 is better but without the Miata to show Honda the way I seriously doubt Honda would have built it.
There are just too many fun cars in the Miata's general price point for them to continue to sell like they used to.

there are over 650,000 miatas out there, they are cheap and plentiful. they are a great car for the money but for the price point there is alot of competition now, so they are discounted, and have been for years. i was able to get my loaded 2001 brand new, color of choice, ls, abs, sport suspension, and 6 speed for 22,000 whereas the sticker was 26plus...that was mid model year.
when i went to sell it at 25,000 miles i only got a bag of beans for it! luckily they were magic beans and it turned into a S2000!

Sales are slowing down as this generation reaches the end of its cycle. The 3rd gen isn't terribly far off now. Sales dropped off a lot for the 1st gen as it reached its end of life (1996-7).
Good deals can be had new, and as a added benefit, its driving down used car prices. Good if you're in the market (like me).
And it isn't a Ford. Designed and built in Hiroshima.
