Default Mercedes E63 review

I got to drive my buddy's E63. He traded in his '06 911S as he was ready for something different. This thing is quite a speed machine. 7-speed tranny is smooth and relatively fast acting. 500+hp 6.2 motor is quite a monster, but very refined. Even coming up on the 7,000rpm redline, it doesn't make much of any noise or vibration. The car pulls like a freight train right up to 158mph indicated where the speed governor softly kicked in.

My buddy wants to get exhaust because it's just SO quiet and refined, it's a bit depriving. I have never been so relaxed or comfortable at 158mph or any other higher speed.

Anyway, very nice ride and can be had for good prices a year or two old. Only downside to the day is on my way home in my C6, I got a speeding ticket for 83 in a 60. I was pretty happy with that because I was going significantly faster about 5 seconds before he clocked me. I was actually in the process of slowing down when he hit me with instant on radar just over a crest in the road. Oh, well I consider it a speeding tax that I have to pay for my aggressive driving habits. Plus, I don't mind supporting the TX Department of Public Safety.

Haha...thats ironic. How was the ride quality? I drove two C63's and for 60k+ forget it. It rides incredibly hard. Its almost as if all the money went into the motor/handling and not how one feels when they're driving to the grocery store.

My buddy LOVED the C63, but said the ride was too harsh. He thinks the E63 ride is a bit too soft, even with the airmatic suspension in sport 2 mode or whatever it is (3 mode air suspension). But, given that it was his daily driver and he was going to track it maybe once before getting a dedicated track car, he went with the E63 for the better ride.

nice review, I just got a speeding ticket myself and the cop was a total d*ck about it, not only that, he claims I was doing a speed that was not even close to what I was doing.

I don't know about the C63 (it's supposedly harsh), but the E63 I drove was butter smooth. It's funny how you accelerate getting onto a highway, and before you know it, you're already 20 or 30mph above the speed limit and it feels like going 20 or 30mph BELOW. haha

I have driven in the E63 & sat in the C63 while being driven. The E63 is a really nice car. Especially when VRP Racing gets their hands on it (another +50-60 hp). Almost perfect car for me. I was really considering the C63, but on sitting in it the seats are comical. Literally the side bolsters sucked you into the seats. On sitting in them for 5 minutes I was really uncomfortable. God help you if you are shaped like a typical American. I'm not overweight by any stretch & the side bolster were literally pushing up against my whole side. I'm sure for fast lapping they would be good, but for everyday driving, forget about it. Suspension was also much stiffer than the E63.

He probably underestimated.

Since you said instant on radar I'm assuming you had a radar detector? That has always been my fear is instant on.I've been hit by it but from bouncing off another car so I stopped in time.Maybe you can do the online traffic school thing to keep your insurance premiums down.

83 in a 60, and you were slowing!
