LOL That wagon was nearly 29k new back in 1980. That is equivalent to 100k plus in today's dollar factoring inflation. WOW!

Complexity does not equal better engineering/quality. I dunno why, but BMW and Mercs just love making somehting simple like a bumper into a friggin jigsaw puzzle.
And it has caught up to them, every sell at lexus is one less from mercedes and BMW. Once the LS starts to become the chairman/mafia car of choice, merc will be dead. Even the rich get tired of having to take the car in for service and be shown a service order that looks like telephone bill, and just as often.

all my parents mercedes that are older than 2000 have been pretty reliable and very good build quality, but their newer ones have to go get something fixed once in a while

Not only that, but I don't think the merger between Chrysler and Daimler Benz was in the best interest to the consumer.

Bigger Company + Buying more parts = More profit for the company and not a better quality product for consumers!

I think by far, BMW and Lexus (and how could I ever forget Honda and Acura) are the best in build quality!
good thing they unmerged

Well in the last 5 years I've had two MB's

CLK500 - 1500 miles had to replace the 7-speed trans. - $7200
E350 4-Matic - 14000 miles had to replace the center diff - $9100

Both these were covered under warranty and the service was amazing (both done in 24hrs)

REALITY....I don't buy MB's. I only lease for 24-27 months and never of 27K miles. I only lease them when the money factor is next to 0. Since the break up of MB and Chrysler they are not offering any deals (except on the C Class). EURO is going to kill them.

Somebody in LA is buying a VERY GOOD used CLK500 right now and going to HATE the cost of maintenance. But they will be "rolling".

The only MB I support is the Mclaren MB with Lewis Hamilton as a driver.

But I keep thinking of buying my Dad a TD for his 70th B-day.
