my CLK 430 did not had the quality as the older Mercedes my dad own.
the oil fuel meter on my Clk was always out of order.

I think Mercedes had decrease the build quality for less weight and less cost$$ last few year
MB cars are much cheaper than 10 years ago.

and the press all had mention there are a improve on quality when test the new SL-class

I have a 2001 ML320 & while the engineering is OK (just OK), the build quality sucks. The article above referenced 296 problems per 100 owners. I've had over 10 problems related to build quality (WRONG parts installed at the factory, etc). So find 99 other owners, I think that 296 number is on the low side if you ask me.

I am constantly disgusted by how many MBs you can see crowding the streets in Los Angeles. It seems that in LA the Benz is the rich person's beater car. People buy them automatically, based simply on the name and the logo. Meanwhile, MB's volume has increased dramatically over the past few years, and their quality has apparently gone the opposite direction. I hope this catches up with them.

Not only that, but I don't think the merger between Chrysler and Daimler Benz was in the best interest to the consumer.

Bigger Company + Buying more parts = More profit for the company and not a better quality product for consumers!

I think by far, BMW and Lexus (and how could I ever forget Honda and Acura) are the best in build quality!

This is really sad to see. My folks have had MB desiels since I was 6 and my father simply would not replace one with another till there was more than 200k on the odometer. His previous desiel had 230k on the clock when it was traded in '92. Personally, I think his current 300TD will out live him.
