you forgot that the si is also much cheaper than the mcs. i'd take a $30k si over a $30k mcs.
That's a fact, I got my '05 Civic Si for $16.5 + TTL. It also has a lot more passenger and cargo room than the MCS.

The GTI has a torsion beam rear suspension that is just the worst for any handling not to mention stone age old...
A Porsche 944 has a torsion beam setup and is still a great handling car - probably one of the easiest cars to drive fast in the world (in my opinion). I first drove a 944 when I was 15 and I got the back end out of shape and gathered it back in without ever having done that in a car before (go-karts don't count!). In its day, a 1989-1991 944 Turbo S was 3-4 seconds quicker per lap at Buttonwillow than a 911. Why? Handling!

You need to dump a fair amount of money into a Gen IV or GenIII GTI to get it even in the ballpark of the MCS.
MCS is a billion times stiffer and has a (relative to size) wider track.
My advice? Buy a used whatever for a daily driver, then find a (used) Civic hatch to gut/mod/track.
