Mazda vs Infiniti?
So this is the question about Mazda (new) vs Infiniti (used)
Lets say, for example, a new 2012 Mazda MS3 cost about the same as a used 2008 Infiniti G35 (3 yr old with 40k miles). If I am planning keeping the for 7 years and drive it for 100k miles. At the end of the "term", the Mazda MS3 will be 7 yr old with 100k miles, and the Infiniti G35 will be 10 yr old with 140k miles. I will be replacing the car at that time.
Which one is a smarter/better buy?

Any more info on which G you would be getting? They have some with AWD, 4-door, 2-door, ect.
I would probably choose the G mainly because it is RWD and a more luxurious car. (Which is odd because I daily a track prepped Miata, but neither of these would handle well enough to keep me super excited about driving them, so I would default to a comfy ride.)
But if you need the cargo room, or are going to be carrying more than 2 people often and were not getting the 4-door G, then I would lean more towards the MS3.
Also If you are counting on the Infinity's warranty to help you anywhere, you may be in for a surprise. It is not as bad with the Infinity line, but Nissan in general has been known to make warranty work difficult to get covered. And I held this opinion long before the GTR came out, so I am not talking about that.

thanks guys.
the G is a '08 Sedan with 6MT, premium + navi with just above average mileage for the age of the car. it looks more like a 4-5 yr old car than a 3 yr old one. but eveything checked out great at the dealer.
i do like the clutch of MS3 better. the G's clutch has a high take up and i don't know if i can ever get used to that, or just have to live with it (seems like a lot of people just learn to live with it)
the car will be a DD, but i am hoping that i can take it to occational autoX or track day for fun.

My question at that point would be if the MS3 is going to stay reliable outside of warranty. Its a turbo car so there is more things to maintain and fix when they break. The G35 would probably have lower overall costs since the MS3 is a more limited production car and more expensive to fix due to specific body panels. They are very different cars but I think the G35 would be a more livable car day to day but the MS3 would be more fun. I would actually look at a used WRX hatch over a new MS3 since you could get more car for about the same price.

I'd rather drive a 6 speed G35 coupe for 7 years.
You can't go wrong with either choice, really, so it boils down to which car you like better. The G35 starts out as a "nicer" car from the start and it's no slouch in stock form. The Speed3 is a FWD turbo, which is fun for a while but 7 years of fun? I don't know.
