I heard about this. I still think the RX8 is a cool car. Heck, our car is 240 HP and we are lucky if we are getting 200 at the wheels.

Yep, same thing as the '01 Miata. 155 hp revised to 142. The '00 non-VVT, lower compression ratio engine was rated at 140. Many think the '01 is no stronger but Mazda revised to 142, 2 above the '00, to save a bit of face. In both the Miata and RX8 fiascos, Mazda is offering a buyback or $500 plus free lifetime service.
Go to miata.net or rx8forum.com if you want to read a whole lot of fiery debate. Also note that at least one car dyno'd 2k mi later than original dyno showed about 8 extra lb-ft and hp. Maybe real, maybe just test to test variation. Certainly the RX8 is down on the original claimed 247 hp, most still think the revised 238 hp is optimistic too. We'll know more with time. But either way, this is a screwup from Mazda on an important vehicle launch. And while the RX8 is perhaps still a great car, I think Mazda deserves all the flack they're getting.
