Default Maybe an Sti Tommorow

So, after months of talking with dealers, walking out 3 times on an Sti (2 on an Evo), I got a call yesterday.. "Hey.. only this weekend we are selling the ones we have at msrp and we have the silver you want"... Its been a long process, It started at $10K over msrp from the various 7 dealers in this area. I get a call a few weeks after release.. "Well, we will take it down to $8k over msrp, bit that is as low as we go". I call around, get the same answer from them all. Few weeks later I send a bunch of internet requests out, I get a few hits at $5K over msrp... and they will never sell it for cheaper. A few weeks later I call around... Several are now selling it at 3K over msrp... but again, this is a once in a lifetime deal, they wont go any cheaper.. they're rare.. bla bla bla... A few weeks later I call around, some still want 8K, some 5K, some 3K and I get a hit at $2K, I talk with them for a bit, they decide they were going to rape me on my trade in so I walk. Wait a few weeks, The internet sales manager of one gets back with me and says I can have it at 1K over msrp, but being the same place is trying to rap me on the trade in so I walk. I take that deal over to the other dealer, they write it up $1K over msrp and offer more for my car. But they started rapping me on the number as if I couldn

I wouldn't spend $30k for a car with a stupid ecu(learned knock adjustment that it forgets), understeer tendencies, no radio or speakers, non-projector headlights, and a ricer hood-scoop. I dont think all of that is worth $525 a month for 72 months!

I'm Evo8 biased though

Maybe wait a little longer. The Evo's at some dealerships are now going for $1K off msrp. From the rate it is going in your story may happen with the STi

Happy to hear that you didn't give into the dealer BS. I went with a friend of mine who was considering an Evo and they pulled the same cliche car-salesman crap. I'm amazed at how they automatically assume every person who walks in the door is a moron who likes to take it up the ass.

Even at straight MSRP, I gave the STi a pass... Nice car, just not for me.

The Evo looks like it might be a better fit for my driving style. My guess is invoice + $500 will be realistic very soon. Infortunately, invoice is only like $2K in back of MSRP.

i took my evo to www.summitpoint-raceway.com today on the "jefferson course" with the BMW club.... i got stuck in the "B" instead of "A" group since it was my first time there...... I got passed by NOONE!

But there was a STI in the A group.... I was hoping to hop out of B and into A, but that didn't work....I kept having to pit after catching everyone.

"B" is supposed to be "somewhat experienced but not the best".... I passed M3's, M5's, Shoes, E36's, E46's, 2002's, 320i's, WRX's, etc........ oddly enough I have seen about 5-6 STI's driving around and ZERO Evo's

Evo rocks!

Scot,

How would you rate the Evo's quality control? The only reason I would lean towards the STi is because of Subie's track record for qualtiy cars (relatively speaking).

The Mitsu's I've seen with a couple of years down the road just all look beat. What's your take on the Evo though?

I definitely think the EVO looks better.
