In the gti price range, the car does offer the best overall package.
Not to mention, helluva lot more fun than the S2000, because of its "enormous" torque (pulling the front wheels). And Somalia is more powerful than the U.S. too.

I have State Farm in NJ also. I pay 750 a year for the s2000 a second car. 1200 fo my GTO (daily driver) so your missing a discount somewhere.

If you want to get out of your s2000 lease try the web site Leaseswap. Cars with not many months left and lots of milage left move quickly on Leaseswap. Should be no problem to transfer the lease.

The idiot salesman that came with me didn't believe me when I told him the S2000 was significantly faster when he insinuated that the GTI was a better car. I told him that if he wanted a ride in a REAL sports car, I'd take him for one, but of course he quickly changed the subject.

Honk.....Honk......Take me to a Honda dealer

I have driven VWs for the past 15 years or so and I love them, but it is a love/hate relationship. The performance models often take a lot of upkeep & maintenance. My Corrado for example is a spoiled brat, needs lots of attention. Spent more hours under that car than I'd care to admit.

My R32 on the other hand is just gas & go, not a lot of work needed. Standard oil changes, etc.

I do like the new MkV GTI, the DSG tranny is amazing and the GTI is no slouch... but in the same price range I'd recommend you check out the Mazdaspeed 3 and the Mazdaspeed 6

The speed 3 is 280hp, GTI sized with a nice suspension and brakes. But it's FWD so it's got a lot of torquesteer issues.

The speed 6 has the exact same AWD system as my R32... it's a good performer, about 600lbs less than an STI, so it's tossable and feels good in the twisties (and jumps off the line thanks to the Haldex AWD).

I also went to put it in reverse and ended up in 6th because I didn't realize you had to push down on the stick and go up and to the left. That's a little backwards VW. Why not be like the rest of the world and put reverse back and to the right?
Almost every european car out there has the reverse in that position. So unless you count Europe as not being the rest of the world compared to Japan and the US.... last I counted there were a lot more countries represented there with a lot more automakers.

Keeps you from shifting into reverse at freeway speeds by accident, if you misshift going from 5th to 4th, or 5th to 6th. Either one ending up in reverse is bad.

Hmmm... besides a high reving VTEC motor, I'm not sure the Civic has anything of the S2000 nature, but I get your point.
