Sorry if thats how you interpreted my statement, but no, i do not think BMW is inferior to Honda. I look at BMW as the pinnacle of luxury/performance vehicles. However that being said, I have been a Honda fan for a very long time and still prefer to drive a Honda over a BMW. A 10,000 rpm redline for a sports sedan is simply amazing and if its any indication as to how high the new m3 will redline, then i am going to want to sell my S2000 (and who wants to do that?!).
why would you want to sell the s2000 simply because another car on the market has a motor with a higher redline?? the s2000 is an amazing car, not merely because of it's 9000rpm redline motor, but it is the whole package itself that makes the car great.

just out of curiosity, aside from engine weight and size benefits, why would one prefer a smaller displacement, higher revving motor to one that is larger displacement and lower revving, assuming that both motors yield identical peak horsepower?? i mean, generally, the bigger motor will produce more torque throughout the powerband. also, when one extracts the utmost performance from their motor, they usually end up using on a small portion of the powerband, so why would it really even matter if that portion is from 6500-9000rpm, such as in the s2000, or if it is from 4000-6500rpm for a hypothetical V6 that produces 240hp?? sure, honda chose an inline-4 so they can best achieve 50/50 weight distribution on the s2000, as well as provide better fuel economy for daily driving, and racecars such as F1 cars ususally have displacement restrictions so they extract as much power as they can by raising the rpm, but for a street car, what are the other appeals of a lower displacement/higher revving engine aside from the ones i mentioned??

You don't count bike engines?
motorcycle engines don't count. they are, generally, smaller displacement and more compact than car engines, so the amount of heat and friction they produce is a lot less than the average car engine, running at the same rpm. so in that sense, it would not be fair to compare the 2.

I like the fact that the S2000 is the only production car with a 9000 redline. It will be a sad day to be out revved by a bmw .
well, if honda doesn't put in the effort to produce another motor that out revs the s2000 motor, then i hope another company does, because the s2000 has already been in production for 5 years, so it's time to up the bar...

Because it is fun driving a car with a high redline? I wouldn't care much for the S2000 if it had a 3.0l 7000 rpm redline. I like the current m3, but i'll stick with my S2000 because it is more fun to drive to me. I think a huge element involved with the fun factor of the S2000 is the 9000 redline.

i agree it is fun. but it is also fun to drive a car with a torquey engine. once you really get into driving a car i, at least, forget about how high a motor can rev, but instead focus more on keeping the motor in its power range, regardless if it is above 6500rpm in my s2000, or above 4500rpm in my 330i.

The M5 is more powerful than the E55 - 500 hp vs 459 (or whatever the output is on the E55).

As for the rest...the E55 is better looking, in my opinion. Anything is better than i-Drive. That said, I still would prefer a BMW over a Benz.
