I like the fact that the S2000 is the only production car with a 9000 redline. It will be a sad day to be out revved by a bmw .

The next gen E90 M3 will have the M5's engine minus 2 cylinders to make it a V8. I have read some rumors on an 9,500 or 10,000 RPM redline...
The BMW M3 GTR Racecar's 4-liter V8 revs to 8500rpm.

[QUOTE=JonBoy,Oct 8 2004, 10:09 AM] Is any F1 engine at 20K rpm during a race, yet?

bmw keeps pushing the release date back, I wonder if the 7 speed trans is having issues or if it the motor they are not done working on?

Why is that...do u think BMW is inferior to Honda? New S2000's no longer rev to 9000 RPM's by the way.

Sorry if thats how you interpreted my statement, but no, i do not think BMW is inferior to Honda. I look at BMW as the pinnacle of luxury/performance vehicles. However that being said, I have been a Honda fan for a very long time and still prefer to drive a Honda over a BMW. A 10,000 rpm redline for a sports sedan is simply amazing and if its any indication as to how high the new m3 will redline, then i am going to want to sell my S2000 (and who wants to do that?!).

Here is another engine that you just marvel at the technical specifications, & it just sounds amazing in every sense, but I just hope it does not run into as many problems as the M3 engine. We have all heard about the early batch failures , but now my friend's M3 just got recalled for a bearing problem. Could just be these engines are just too close to the edge in terms of engineering to be very reliable.

That's primarily just the US market. Japan still has the 2.0L.
