M3 - E46 Engine failures

I guess these are common issues with high performance machine...M3 Engine failures

Had a 325i for the past 2.5 weeks... even without the sport package it's worlds better than the Taurus!

wow that terrible.. maybe those M3s need a Spoon/Mugen bafflied oil pan

they probably dont break it in properly. M3 owners do that lot. (cant blame them)

Heheh, I can't believe someone who likes Ferrari's is making jokes about other people's cars breaking down.

JFY, the problem is a manufacturing defect in the crankshaft bearing, the tolerances have been changed a few times and most of the affected cars are 11/01 production models. In most cases BMW is covering it under warranty, 100% in SMGII equipped cars, but they are screwing some manual owners.

My car was kept under the 5500rpm/100mph limit for the first 1200mi with plenty of load changes. Oil was changed at 1200mi and checked religiously, car was never tracked. 3 spun bearings at 7700mi, engine replaced under warranty.

I wouldn't be concerned if I was your brother unless he is overrevving it.

thanks for the info... come to think of it, its time for my bro to have his oil change... and i dont think he ever overreved the car before... oh well, thanks again...
