Having driven both tires I can tell you the PS2's are a good bit better than the Conti's, but would not make up a full .1 g of lateral acceleration. The Cayman S's advantage lies in it's mid engine design (though the M coupe has a near 50/50 balance), not to mention the slightly wider rubber on the front & back. Continental has introduced the new Conti Sport Contact 3's now. The PS2 is a great all around tire, but in terms of dry grip would not match an Extreme performance tire (ala the RE-01R's, or RT-615's, etc.) though tire wear characteristics are a good deal better.

the Conti's are even worse than the PS2's so where does that place them in this highly technical scale of yours?
it doesn't....and my ass is the greatest scientific tool in the world.

I heard that the RE's are a bit heavier than PS2's though, so no sluggishness after the switch? Just asking because I'm thinking about trying it out RE next, (have Toyos right now, PS before that).

don't know about the weight....you can ask tirerack if not published.

all i know is MY car (not yours, not my neighbour's, not my dog's), is 180 degrees diff. after installing these tires.

the car was skittish, understeered badly, was generally unstable, lots of road noise, and handled like a 3700 pound car (which it is).

now, the car is much more neutral, it handles like a much lighter car, transitional response is awesome, tire noise is almost non-existent, car's stable, etc...

made a world of diff.....

RE01R's are to my understanding almost a DOT-r tire. As such they would far outgrip any 'normal' ultra high performance tire.

Every comparo that I

yeah....i've only had my M3 for over a month and there is already wear.

it's a great tire....super sticky....but with that comes low treadwear.

oh well...

good thing M coupe don't have run-crap (I mean run-flat) tires.

Makes me mad that most BMWs only come with EMT tires. I hate them with a passion and if it comes down to 2 cars that I like similar and one had runflats I'd probably get the one without.

It's easy enough to ditch the run-crap tires but then you are stuck with an extra payment for no reason.

^ yeah, but you're talking a grand for a set of tires (18's or 19's)...hardly a big deal.

and you can prolly sell the EMT's for 500 bucks....

I feel best way to test the cars is to put same tire on both cars if possible, I'm pretty sure the Conti's sucks more than PS2.
