In terms of a roadster you can use every day that is still relatively light and nimble it's really, really hard to beat a Boxster S.
You can get a 2007 Boxster S with 295HP 251 torque for about 35K nicely optioned.
I had a Z4M before and the 987S is just a lot more nimble and ''S2000 esque'' all while being much faster than the Honda.

For me i would trade replace my S with either a..
1) 2003+ Acura NSX
2) 2003+ BMW M3
3) 2005+ Acura RL...( IDK why i just love the looks and tech)
4) 2005+ Lotus Elise/Exige
most of these cars are out of each others class but overall at the moment im gunna keep the S close to me

As long as there's the dream of turning it into a track whore, I doubt I'll replace it any time soon. However, if I give up on that, my dream car would be a 911S or GT3 for a 'fun car' with a Cayman S as a slightly cheaper alternative.
More likely, though, I'll be keeping the S and replacing the dd. There are a whole host of cars that I'd consider buying when that time comes, depending on my financial situation at the time... and of course what is available. My dd has 215K miles on it, so it could kick the bucket any day now.

if you can afford a new S2000, you can afford an '06/'07 Cayman S with very low miles and driving dynamics that'll make you smile every time you get into the car.
or if you prefer, 335i that every guy and his mother has

Oh Mingster I am as hardcore as s2000 fans come (I haven't met too many other people who have owned 4 s2k's like I have), but you can't deny the allure of having a 4 door daily driver sleeper that turns the quarter in the low 12's
