On the contrary, I loved the looks of my S2000. It's one of the main sticking points about moving to a Cayman S or Boxster S - they just don't look as good to me (seriously!). With coilovers and some nice wheels, the S2000 just looks fantastic to me, especially top down or with a hardtop.

Everyone happy now?

I don't have a problem with reposts like this. It's more irritating that ten people need to say "repost" like that's better :/ and someone always has to argue or get defensive like it's a personal attack to suggest something has been posted before?1?

Much of what JC writes these days is on the level of reality TV - designed to be entertaining, but containing minimal substance. (Same for what's on Top Gear.) (Fortunately for him, he's significantly more entertaining than the typical reality TV show.)

That said, his basic point (in terms of the S2000) is "in terms of refinement and comfort, they [cars] are a country mile better than the cars you could buy as recently as a week ago last Tuesday." It's an interesting point to consider, but ultimately I think it's incorrect. Consider the S2000's historic competition - Z4, Boxster, TT, SLK, Z, Miata... I think those cars show that, except the Miata, if you want S2000 or better performance plus more refinement and comfort, you'll have to spend a lot more (the Germans,) or put up with a lot more weight (the Z - although I must say that I find the Z interior refinement to be inferior to the S2000's.) The Miata is cheaper, and from what I can tell has a similar level of comfort and refinement as the S2000, but out of the box the performance isn't quite there. (Although its fun-to-drive quotient is right up there, I've heard - Mazda did a good job with that car.)

To sum up - from what I can see in the MY10 world of cars, if you want S2000 performance but with increased refinement and comfort, you either have to accept a lot more cost, or a lot more weight (which compromises the sheer enjoyment of the drive, IMO.) If you want HDD based Navi, subwoofer, heated power seats, larger cabin, more sound insulation, powered hardtop, automatic climate control, bigger trunk - you'll have to accept that those will add significant weight to the car. (Unless you go with lots of aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber, which will significantly increase the cost of the car.) If you want increased sophistication/comfort with materials like Alcantara, CF, billet aluminum, leather, better grade carpeting - expect to cost to go up.

(Personally, I would have liked to see what Honda could have done with an S vehicle with a tuned version of the 3.5 Accord engine (271hp) or 3.7 Acura TL engine (305hp) with minimal changes to the rest of the car to keep weight down.)

I have to agree that JC doesn't often provide a lot of substance.

It was really ironic reading such a glowing review of the Evora, like it's the best mid-engine car ever, and then he gives it 3 out of 5 stars.

FWIW, this article was discussed earlier: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...&#entry16485728

But I'm only screaming _repost_ b/c people do that to me a lot... haha.

Whatever man.

Back on topic, I've always respected somewhat of what JC says, and in part I bought the S based on his glowing review (didn't the S win TG's top car like 3 yrs running?)

Evora is a great "replacement" though.

Wasn't that a viewer poll, rather than something the Top Gear presenters decided?

For 20,000 pounds more than an S2000 (and 4000 pounds more than a Cayman S) it better be better.

I don't know what you are all complaining about, I got stopped yesterday by a woman asking to see my car and she loved it. It is what it is, and its a great car, even if Honda did abandon it and its no longer faster than a Porsche.
Me as well. I get stoped alot as well.

Jeremy Clarkson now believes that a sports car needs navigation.

Whatever.
