Haven't they been owned by Proton, a Malaysian company, for 5+ years now?

I'm a huge fan of the Elan, Esprit & and Elise. The sedan and (especially) the front engined retractable hardtop coupe I could do without. Then again, if Ferrari sold out with that configuration, why not Lotus?

^did not know this. Then why was there some dispute about using lotus in the Lotus F1 team recently when proton also backs the f1 team?
