Lotus has descended upon Paris
Lotus brought a total of 5 (!) concepts to Paris.
They seem to be fairly well developed, with engines highlighted, curb weight, performance and price targets as well.
As much as I love the old, eccentric, unsustainable Lotus of present and old, if this is what Lotus has in store for the future, they could be a force to be reckoned with.
Lotus Elise- 320 hp, turbo 2.0 four, 6-speed manual or paddle shift automatic, 2,409-pound , 0-62 in 4.3 seconds, $55,000- the HSC we have been begging for is coming... as a Lotus
Elise
Lotus Elite- already discussed, 2+2 GT
Lotus Elan- 450 hp, SC 4.0-liter V6, seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, 2,849 lbs, 0-62 in 3.5 seconds, top speed of 193 mph- $118,000
Elan
Lotus Esprit- SC 5.0-liter V8, 620 horsepower, 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds, 205-mile-per-hour top speed, price- $175,000.
Esprit
Lotus Eterne- 620-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8, optional KERS hybrid drivetrain, RWD or AWD, 0-60 miles in 4.0, 196 mph, $190,000

Damn, how'd I miss that!!!
Regarding the new Elise - 320 hp, 2400 lbs and a 6spd manual for $55k means it's the no-brainer upgrade patch from the S2000. (Which was a position that used to be held by the Boxster/Cayman.)
Indeed, too bad Honda couldn't have done this with the next-gen NSX/HSC. Oh well.

Cool. So, the 2.0 turbo 4 is probably the Mitsui Evo motor or possibly the GM Ecotec 2.0L turbo 4 juiced to 320hp? The 5.0L V8 is either the new Jag motor or the Ford Mustang 5.0L motor with a blower?
Lotus has an interesting phisolphy. An internally developed chassis and other critical suspension components, but then an outsourced engine and other random assorted pieces. Then, a nice mark-up and voila, a cool car and good profit margins.

Autoblog is reporting the blown 2.0 is a Toyota unit.
While I'm not sure how much of a mark-up is involved, I think it's actually a great thing for us car enthusiasts. It funds the engine makers so they can continue producing high-output engines that need to meet ever increasing regulatory constraints, and allows small specialty boutiques to put them into fun, non-mainstream vehicles.

This new Elise may be the upgrade I have been waiting for which was going to go towards a C6/C7 or Cayman S in my 24 month plan. Although, I doubt it might be out in time to fit my timeline...
