“We want our new cars to be as big as the brand itself,”
The guy's got balls to come into one of the most fiercely passionate customer bases, and change nearly everything. I think that overall sales will be about the same, possibly better, but the hardcore base will start to move on.
On the other hand, I think that a lot of the would be customers will start taking a hard look at the other hardcore track toys like the atoms and the Caterham.

Thats not a bad thing..
Hes a business man. He knows how to run a company. Thats what important. He recognizes Lotus was founded on racing and wants to ensure the brand moves forward and becomes lucrative.
This is the same concept as a straight owner/couple owning a gay bar - as long as they focus on the business they will make money vs someone who uses an establishment like that as their personal playground and run it into the ground within the first year (pretty much any nightclub owner).
He'll hire/has many "car guys" on staff - promise.

i thought everything he said was great. Lotus may make great cars that are almost race cars off th elot but they barely sell every year. This guy wants to make Lotus a marketable car company that offers cars that people actually want to buy. good for him is what i say

Some times this is good for car companies an some times it is not. The perfect combination would be a bean counter who happens to be a gear head or vice versa.
Lotus DOES need to appeal to a broader spectrum in order to stay above water in this current world economy so a little bit of 'selling out' is ok. I do hope they don't totally nix the light weight, affordable track monster niche. That'd be like Ford axing the Mustang which would merit a big ole fashioned
