i am glad to see that mazda finally step up and clear this whole thing out.
it's indeed sad to see that they over rated their hp again. (i.e. the same thing happened to miata before).
i still think they should have better engineering/dyno to determine the hp of their engines before the cars hit the dealers.

I think Mazda should have done what Ford did with the 99 Mustang coverage and give the owners the hp they claimed or even more like Cobra owners had. I knew a Cobra owner that had 335hp because many of the cars did come with the claimed hp. That what Mazda should do plus give them free service.

"Today, I got spanked [actually about even] by a Toyota Solara V6 AT. It's 225hp and 3241lbs. Without any technical explainations - the RX-8 should NOT trail behind a Solara!!!! It's 13hp less and 241lbs heavier with an auto tranny."

Mazda's RX-8 launch has been nothing short of a disaster. Mazda USA has decided to imitate MINI's successful ad campaign to regain lost ground. Unlike the horsepower, they are being honest this time.
Let's guzzle gas like a Ford Expedition.
Let's replace the oil pan.
Let's make excuses for our cars.
Let's lie repeatedly about the true horsepower.
Let's avoid Camrys at stoplights.
Let's pour engine heat on the passengers' feet.
Let's cycle the air conditioner annoyingly.
Let's buy the cars back after four weeks.
LET'S ROTOR.
