Yeah I'm hoping to keep the modding tame. I know on the stock turbo the power does off pretty bad up top.
Already ordered a kartboy short shifter today haha.

The only one of those that is bolt on is the VF52. The VF39,43 and 48 will need additional modifications (mainly intake manifold from an STI) to make them work properly.
A 16g is nice, but 18g is nicer, still retaining the reliability you want.
My recommendations- downpipe for use, maybe VF52, and big TMIC. Get a good tune.
I had a Legacy GT wagon, but did a complete build on it. Rebuilt the block, added a VF48, sti intake manifold, Sti TMIC (just an fyi, the inlet for the LGT isn't big enough, so you might need to find a way to get more air in), along with al ot of supporting mods. Had it tuned and dynoed at ~300awhp.
You shouldn't have any problems with the trans though. The Legacy trans is stonger than the old WRX ones. A 6 speed swap is what i wanted to do but the cost was prohibitive and I ended up selling the vehicle.

Love this car so far! Really comfortable which was a big thing I was looking for! Power feels great around town. A little weak top end on the highway but not a big deal. Sound system sucks so I need to upgrade that but besides the sound system and wanting a navigation it has everything I was looking for!
I am planning on installing an in dash navigation and a new sound system soon. Stock system only has 100 watts which is nuts imo!

Good call.
BTW, after a 6 page thread of car searching, you need to post pictures of what you finally picked up. It's been a very broad range of cars suggested, searched, and seen before you finally bought something. And 3 (closer to 4) months since you first posted.

Couple quick iphone pictures. All stock so far so nothing too fancy here.
Ordered a few things for it already. Kartboy short shifter, put one of my shift knobs in of course, all weather floor mats and some interior led lights to brighten things up a bit.

Nice. I completely forgot about SI-Drive. That'll be nice when you go and get it custom tuned.
You can essentially map 3 completely separate tunes to the SI-Drive, for example:
I - 8 psi boost
Sport - 16 psi boost
Sport# - 40 psi boost (followed shortly by big BOOM)

Yeah it's kind of cool. Sport sharp is obviously the bst mode for performance. Feels really sluggish when in I mode but sport sharp feels really nice!
