Looking for a cheap RWD car

Just get the Integra GS-R. It handles better than a LOT of RWD cars and satisfies all of your other requirements. It is one of the only FWD cars that will actually oversteer without any crazy antics on your part like handbraking, transitional braking, etc. Sure it will power understeer under extreme conditons and it is still a FWD chassis, but overall you may be happier with it than a lot of RWD cars.

I'd steer clear of the 944. Great car no doubt, but parts are expensive and your wallet woud be in a world of hurt if something goes wrong.
240sx is a fine reliable sports coupe...but the handling is a little slow.
The RX7 is a fine car, but as you mentioned, reliability is a concern. Plus, $4800 for an FC with 208k miles is very high even with a recently rebuilt engine.
I'd say get over the perception issues and buy the Miata. It has the closest feel to an S2k in every way but power. Very reliable...easy to work on...parts are cheap. Great car to learn RWD handling...especially if you autox it. If you can find a '96-'97 R or '99 Sport...those were the best. Check Miata.net classifieds to find some cars in decent shape.

I think a Miata would easily meet your criteria.

I, too, really think the Miata is my best bet. But man, that stigma!
Thanks for the help, guys. I'm going to look strongly into the Miata and try to get over it. Isn't there anything to make it look less effeminate? Hopefully I can find a nice one in black. It doesn't look too girly with a hardtop, either.
Afterall, it is just to learn on cheaply. And then onto the S2000!
