For that kind of scratch, I would be going with a slightly used 335xi.
It's never fair to compare new to used. Besides, this car would be considerably more fun than the 335xi.

Ummm yes it is. I never understood the argument that it is somehow forbidden to do so. When you shop for a car are only new cars available where you live? You can compare whatever is available on the market.

Because the ranking of a new vs used car comparison doesn't tell you much interesting about the cars themselves. Say somebody would pick a new Golf R over a new 335whatever... but would also pick a used 335 over a new Golf R... which ignores the comparison of the used 335 to the used Golf R, at which point we're back to the Golf R being preferred because of the price. The intent of saying "I'd rather have such-and-such used" is a comment about the price of the new car, but a meaningless comment because every new car's price drops when used.

Awesome! And it's going to be offered with a manual transmission according to Autoblog. The lack of a manual option is the reason why I ended up with an S2K instead of a Mk5 R32.

Does anybody else think V-dubs are ugly? I could never love a car that resembles a small minivan. Especially for 34k

Like the seats, is it the same haldex AWD with 2 open diffs?
If it has the haldex awd system then it's not as good as the EVO's or STI's awd system, especially the Subaru. I'm a function over form guy though.

So is this along the same lines as an R32 but with a turbo 4?

^Yes and a manual tranny.

I dig it, but VWs track record would steer me towards an Evo X over this.

It is odd, I agree with you somewhat on the minivan part, but for some reason I love the look of hatches. This would make a great daily driver for me. I love it.
