let's not forget that the japanese business culture value market share significantly more than the US and other countries. Pricing yourself away from as many consumers as possible isn't the best way to gain sheer volume...

I'm skeptical that the new Lexus and NSX will have the same level of reliability as the old NSX, we're not exactly talking about 260hp, 3.0L V6 here; and making a reliable 260hp isn't exactly what I'd call an achievement even in 1991. The reason why people couldn't justify spending 120K on an NSX in 2000+ isn't because they're bench/magazine racers, look at the competition during those years.
Honda and Lexus isn't exaclty entering the market that honda entered back when the nsx was introduced, we're not talking about glued together (figuratively speaking), underpowered, overpriced Ferraris that an average power level powerplant can dominate, we're talking 500+hp, 11-12 sec quartermiles, record breaking ring laps, and jawdropping show stopping cars. These cars will need to hit all those marks and surpass them, and will need to do it with the reliability that the makes have built their reputations on. On top of that, they have the GTR, ACR, and ZR1/Z06s calling them out at the track, cars like teh R8 and maserati coupe parking next to them in front of the bellagio, not to mention the cult favorite Porsches.
