The SC430 isn't that slow - can get to 60 in less than 6s and trap almost 100mph.
That is actually slower than, let me think: an S2000 which costs $40k less, has half as many cylinders with less than 55% of the displacement, looks and sounds better, has a propper manual gearbox, excellent handling, ... should I continue?

And, the S is not considered a fast car.

Dont think lexus or the target demographic cares about insurance rates...

My vote goes for the baby seat theory (but even that doesnt fit the [cougar] demographic)
Maybe cargo space? The trunk of that car is almost totally used by the top.

I happen to really like that car... It is nice and looks awesome with coils and a set of 20's... With the entire VIP theme going, I think the car looks beautiful. It isn't a slouch either because it takes around 6.3 seconds to get to 60 (Lexus claims 5.9) and also has that V8 pull on the highway. A great deal of after market parts are available such as body kits etc...

The best part is the resale value of the car is horrible so you can pick an 02 up for around 15-16k with around 70k miles and since it is a Lexus, I've seen quite a great deal above 150k miles and still running strong.

Sure it isn't sporty and sure it only comes automatic but for what it is (a fun weekend car) it really isn't bad.

Oh btw I'm 19 and the looks appeal to me but to each his own.

When I was 19 I thought flame stickers, oversized wings and wheels, exposed fire extinguishers, fart cans, neon lights and fake air intakes look good.

You're an idiot to compare a light-weight sports car to a luxury cruiser. Ok, then let's compare the 2 cars' luxury, quality, materials, amenities, etc. Going by your logic, then a $22K Mustang V6 can kick the $35K S2000's ass; but what's the point again?

Still, that's not slow.

Stupid kids always tend to compare accelerations of 2 totally different cars. Did you know that a Z06 can kick a $400K Rolls Royce's ass in all acceleration measures? Then I guess all RR customers should drive the Z06 then.

The thing is, nobody here likes to pretend that the S is a luxury car. It is a sports car and that's why we like it. We wish it was faster, and that's what FI is all about.

However, why would anyone care about the SC430's acceleration numbers is beyond me. I can come up with plenty of examples to prove my point, first up the Infinity G35/G37. That is the point of my post. There are cheaper, better looking/sounding/performing luxury cars than the SC430.

Regarding your S2000 vs. Mustang comparo, both cars have very simmilar straight line acceleration numbers and the Mustang might have more anemities, but that's it. In everything else (handling, sound, braking, style, driver involvement, etc.), the S is a superior car. Unless you are comparing passenger and cargo capacity, which seems to me you are perfectly capable of.

Regarding your last point about kids being stupid, well I don't even know if that is directed at me. However I must point out that you appear to have A LOT of experience when it comes down to coming up with really stupid comparisons of tottaly different cars.

The Lexus SC430 is for women and geriatric old guys. It is an excellent luxury barge, it's extremely comfortable, and I am embarrassed every time I drive my wife's . I like the bulletproof reliability and the fact that it saves me from having to own a German car.
