Do you know how many people in the world there are who can afford a Ferrari? The one's that sit on that wait list, and actually want one are about a .001% of that group.

The list for the F430 has been long and very tight ever since it was first announced, in turn also driving up the car's used worth over $300k (for a car that stickers around $200k). A list doesn't fill itself with ".001%" of a buying group, especially when the Carmaker in question only makes a few thousand of the cars being sought after per year. You're telling me Ferrari filled their wait list (which is at least a few thousand entries long) with several dozen people? Interesting math.

Not to many people noticed but starting this year Lexus is rejoining the "Perf" market. Some people are sticking to the old days when they just werent (and make a lot of comments to that effect), but Lexus/Toyota is clearly swinging their mighty piggy bank back into the market starting with the IS and then the future Supra and this beast. It kind of reminds me of Honda and the NSX where Honda clearly shifted gears a bit and moved into the perf market again.

Hard to say without knowing much about the LF-A. The R8 is a pretty cool looking car. If it gets priced at 80-90k (I don't see how it can get priced much higher considering the M6) for the 420 hp variant and 120-140k for the 500 hp, the LF-A is going to need to deliver.
Theres no way the LF-A is going to come anywhere close to matching the hype its generated (or Lexus is generating for it?), but then as ludicrous as the hype is it doesn't need to.

Based on what I've read, the base R8 s/b ~$100K.

If I could afford a $100K car, I'm not going to care about reliability - I'll be able to maintain the car without selling my wife every time it needs an oil change.
