I may very well get an IS350 in a few years and trade-in my fiance's IS300. six-speed paddle shift and a 300+hp V6 sounds pretty sweet to me.
Not to mention the overall build quality, attention to detail, and reliablity of the Lexus marque makes it a more appealing alternative to the 3 series.
As much as I like the driving feel of the 3 series, I don't want to lay down $40k and have to take the darn thing in the shop every other week. Too many of my friends and co-workers have been sucked into that BMW black hole. Funny thing is, most still LOVE their cars. The problems must give it some character.

Any performance data on the 250? I'm impressed that the 350 is so quick, but really, I don't need all that. I'd be happy with a 0-60 in the 6s out of a sporty sedan and that 27 MPG, that is a far better formula for this car's intended task.
I'm not impressed with BMW's quality either. On top of the montain of anecdotal storys I have of Beemers having problems, C&D's 330i had brake failure in their test!! It won, but IMO that is unacceptable and that alone should have prevented the win. What good is the best sport sedan if you're on a first name basis with your service manager? This is not a weekend toy, it is a commuter car.

do you honestly expect man-made articles to not have defects?

Half of C&D's write up on the BMW is about problems with the test car. IMO, that many problems should not have been overlooked when determining the winner.

Thanks Wombat, C&D's summary should have read something along the lines of, "Great car, if it worked."
