Let's settle this Ethanol Thing
After reading several post questioning ethanol, I feel the need to get everyone on the same page. I am against ethanol for a long number of reasons. Several of these reasons have already been discussed in other forums. I would like to see where everyone stands. Just think, we can blame the Prius and fit for our high gas prices.

Dont forget about 1992 Vx civic that started it all. 50mpg back when gas was $1. I agree Ethanol sucks for so many reasons it would take an hour to type them To those who voted who cares you truely suck and are the reason things are the way they are. Any questions on how i feel?

It burns slower than petrol (more power potential), can be domestically produced (no more dependance on OPEC and Canadia), and will raise corn prices for farmers who have getting been shafted for a while.
I'm also under the impression it is far less polluting that petrol.

Good. Sort of.
From corn? Stupid way about going about it.
Cellulosic ethanol production is a much better way of going about it than corn starch. Still ethanol is at best a marginally better stop-gap. The advantages of ethanol over dino oil aren't so significant that we should be throwing huge subsidies at it. As an alternative source of oil I think it has its place in the energy market. I didn't vote as putting "good" down makes it sound like I like how ethanol is being produced now, which I don't. On the other hand I think ethanol could be produced in an economically viable and environmentally friendly manner. It isn't now, but as the technology continued to develop I'm all but positive it will be possible to do so. Of course as long as the subsidies continue to support the environmentally unfriendly and economically stupid method of production currently in place there isn't much incentive except for those outside of big agriculture.

Let's see, the farmers are selling the corn for fuel vice feed, less feed costs more so all the crops are costing more. This is a vicious cycle and we are all going to pay more for everything we buy. To those that say $6.00/gal for gas I say you have a bag over your head and are only looking at one side of the petro fuel dependent issues. In the mean time those on the low end of the earnings are in for a hard time.
