For track and fun, I'd get a Miata and slap on an f.i.

Ever thought of a used Evo? It can handle like a dream and be very fast at the same time.

By the word "track" he doesn't mean drag strip.

JK. I would go with the Miata as a track car, their cheap as hell and can be made to go quite fast.
No drag racing here. Remember I have an S also, and let me tell you my mustang will run down and destroy anything short of a super miata or S. I have also tracked a PPG Cobra pace car and unless you have track (road course) experience with a simiar vehicle you have no idea what you are missing. A properly setup chassis and suspension on a domestic makes one heck of a car. Don't get me wrong I love my S, but it is a totally different beast.

I have a buddy that had a 996 TT X50 (street tires) and a spec Miata (race tires). The lap times for the two were pretty close and the maintenance on the Miata is a little cheaper.

I've seen a Spec Miata keep up with a Z06 in a 2.9 HP track(TWS). Its ALL in the driver.

Also if you want a HP edge. Get a Flying miata- a friend of mine picked one up for less than $11k. put in $3k and he has a rollbar, gutted interior, harness, kirkey seat- and the car puts down 200 hp easy. The only problem being there is no series for turbo miata's.
