Default Just picked up my first bike today!

I'm now a dual S2000 and bike owner! I picked up my first bike today, a 1993 Suzuki GS500e. It needs a little work, and I don't have my license yet, but I'll be on the road soon enough. I'm planning to take an MSF course as soon as I can and get my license after that.

I think it will be a good starter bike. Enough power to keep me entertained but not more than I can handle!

Pics to come soon

Decent size starter bike. I owned a GS450 in the early '80s and it wnet very well - the GS500 is the same bike bored out and with fancier bodywork.

^Glad to hear it was a good bike, I've heard great things about these I thought about a 250, but I'm tall (6'2") and a lot of the 250's are too small, and also I want to keep this bike for a while so I wanted something with decent power.

I rode it for the first time yesterday, although it was just putting around a parking lot. I love this bike so far! My friend who rides gave me a basic lesson, started out just walking the bike around, then practicing the clutch engagement point, and finally idleing it downhill with my feet up on the pegs. The balance on this bike feels a lot easier than the dual sport I rode.

Good sensible starter bike. Do take the advanced course - the one you call MSF.

alot of MSF classes cover the active drivers test but if yours dosnt: in a parking lot set up a course same as your states drivers test and practice.

get full helmet, jacket w/ hard plastic, racing gloves, boots? get used stuff if you dont mind, save $

Awesome, I remember my first bike. The GS500 was on my list but I ended up getting a Ninja250

I love the Nina 250, I think it's a beautiful bike and probably a great starter bike too. I just couldn't find one in the right price range around here, and this bike just popped up. Plus, I like the fact that the GS500 has very little plastic to drop it on, unlike the Ninja, lol

Just out of curiosity, do you still have your Ninja or did you upgrade?

I believe my first bike is going to be a 600cc, I have driven a 1000, but definitly do not want to start on one.

Good to hear you are enjoying it. However, not to put too fine a point on it, but....

The GSX250, GSX400 and GS450 were all identical bikes - the only difference was the bore size of the engine, so if the GS500 fits you then the GSX250 would have too.
