Aside from the interior I really like the Cobalt SS, not that the interior is that bad... just not on par with honda/vw/mazda. At any rate, the hands down performance winners in the segment are the SRT4 and Cobalt SS depending on whether your speaking of straightline acceleration or handling. The Si does give you a whole lot more creature comforts tho, but then there's the GTi.
Rag racing is just as pointless as bench racing. The outgoing Si got a lot of love from the press and it was mediocre. It's a competitive enough market segment that I can confidently say the Si isn't going to walk away from the competition. It's not like the s2k where the closest things are the miata, boxster, solstice, and SLK.

Check out this month's C&D, not only was the Cobalt fully SIX seconds faster around VIR than the Si it was a couple of tenths quicker than the Mustang GT. It's a fast, good handling, well sorted car.
There no doubt the Si is better built and will hold its value better, but the there also no doubt that the Si is the slow man of the group.
The car to buy in the hot compact segment is the MS3, hands down.

Have you actually driven one? After checking one out in person, I was pretty surprised by how nice the SC version is.

i think the cobalt ss is a huge improvement over the cavalier z24.
it's just that on an s2000 forum most of us would choose the slower, likely better built si.
my problem with all honda sports cars however is their serious lack of torque...yet i still love them!

The lack of torque and use of high RPM to achieve HP is cetainly a Honda trait, perhaps their philosophy. That might be changing if they start using the 2.3 liter turbo from the RDX, though. Even the Cobalt doesn't achieve torque without FI.

Sorry, after owning numerous GM failures....I have to go with the Si.
