Default JDM type-R emissions?

How much different are the emissions from a JDM b18c5 compared to the USDM b18c5? My friend is looking to do a type-R swap, but if he won't be able to pass emissions then that won't fly. Any other little quirks he should know about the JDM motor either?

Thanks

~Andrew

the engine itself should produce exactly the same amount of emmissions... unless one is tuned differently, but even so, it shouldn't be that much of a difference... plus you could tune it yourself with something like a vafc to be more lean or more rich... its what comes after the engine that probably makes the biggest difference though... the main emmissions problem in doing a swap is visual inspection, the engine has got to be newer than the car its going in.

most of the visual inspection problems only apply in California. most likely, you should be ok as long as you clean up the engine and keep it stock.

Ummmmm a couple of things guys. And, please, correct me if this is wrong. This is based on some research I've done about importing a JP home-market S2000 to the US.

This pertains to the S2000 motor, but I'd think the Integra stuff is the same???:

The Japanese F20C use a different ECU than what you get in the US. For one, in JP they have speed limiters, but more importantly they don't support the OBD-II standard. As far as I know, you can't get inspection stickers on late-model cars without OBD-II... So, I think that if you want to street the car with a JDM engine, I think you'd have to change the ECU.

What do you think?

I don't know how that's allowed, civic. I'm glad they let you do it though.

Here in MA, I'm pretty sure (not positive, though) that the emissions tester won't work unless you can hook up the OBD.
