Have you personally driven either car?

What other automotive manufacturer is doing aluminum rivet bonding construction since there is a lot of them?

One thing that is apparently forgotten in these discussions is that as short as shift times might be in dual-clutch automatics, torque converter autos never are out of gear - power is constantly being delivered to the wheels. You won't experience quite the "slammed in the back" feeling with a torque converter transmission for that reason. It would be incorrect to assume that feeling indicates some advantage over the power delivery of a torque converter transmission.

On a side note, pretending DCT/SMG style transmissions are somehow not "automatic transmissions" is just humorous.

IS-F gives you pretty abrupt hard shifts in between gears when you're full throttle and it has a torque converter.

They differ from traditional automatics significantly, as previously discussed. There is an element of "automatic transmission" to them in that the driver isn't actuating the clutch with his foot but they do offer true driver control as opposed to most automatics which shift slower, many won't even go to or hold redline and generally are much less sporty and offer far less true control. There are only a handful of automatic transmissions that offer true redline-holding capability and the option to force the car to stay in a particular gear.

DSG/DCT/SMG type transmissions let the driver tell the car when and how to shift. Automatics generally do not. Therein lies the difference.

We are only discussing F-TYPE's 8 speed ZF Quick Shift transmission vs DSG/DCT/SMG. Available on F-TYPE S, Dynamic Launch Mode virtually eliminates torque interruption during gearshifts to produce even more dramatic acceleration.

To me, it looks very much like an S2000 inspired, yet very Jag or "British" as well. Like an "adult" S2000. Has a little Maserati too.

Dynamic Launch Control on this car is an idiot light. With the car in gear you hold the brake and press on the gas until a light comes on. The silly thing is everyone else in the world calls this "brake boosting," and don't need a dash light because the transmission will hold the engine rpms at the stall speed anyway. Once you let off the gas, away you go.

As has already been covered, ALL torque converter autos will shift with no break in torque delivery. IOW, it is pretty standard stuff.

I personally would not buy a car like this without a manual transmission, but I also realize that the vast majority of buyers want autos, and most probably don't care and wouldn't notice the difference between a traditional torque converter auto and an automated manual design, regardless of the number of clutches. It doesn't make sense for low volume models to be offered with a manual transmission very few buyers will want.

On a side note, to think DCT is "automatic" in the sense you are talking about is even more humorous.

New style DCT/DSG/PDK style transmissions mean no power loss during gear shift, just so you know.

Face it. For performance sports cars, any type of ZF is far inferior to a DCT/DSG/PDK.

This isn't even a discussion, it's fact.
