Default Interesting Porsche magazine quote about the S2000

[QUOTE]A week in a Cayman 2.7 [...] had me wishing for an option that doesn't exist -- a package that would instill some of the 997 GT3's hard-core nature in the 987.

The Cayman has a lot of potential for the hardcore. I hope Porsche expands on it. If they make a Cayman RS, it would hit the spot for that author.

From personal experience, I couldn't agree more with the writer re. Boxster and S2000. I certainly can relate S2000 feeling more "alive" and more wired to my driving input (gearbox, throttle, clutch).

Over the long haul, the Boxster is an easier car to live with...

I would never drop my money on a Porsche that is not a 911. Well, a 928 GTS is an exception. A car that is currently neck-and-neck in my current buying decison.

Porsche 928 or S2000?

Hmmmm. Well, I am currently in college and a Honda is right for my budget. I can thrash my fathers 911 anytime I want.

The S2000 is the best hardcore roadster overall. The Lotus Elise comes close, but who the hell wants to driven an aluminum box with 4 wheels? I would if I could afford a turbo'ed one ;-p.

Trust me, if he were doing his comparison on a track, the Cayman would have been favored. I think this may be an upcoming report in Consumer Reports .

I like my Cayman S as is (though a smaller steering wheel and short throw shifter would be nice upgrades). One of the things I like is that it outperforms the S2000, yet is much more refined and pleasant in everyday driving situations. It would be perfectly suitable as a daily driver, yet like the S2000 has a sky high fun factor.

If you have a budget, you probably don't want a 928. I love those cars, but if they haven't been kept in perfect condition they can cost a fortune to fix.

I always used to liken driving the S2000 to drinking five cups of coffee...sometimes it was great, other times it left me with jangled nerves.

I do miss the car, and wish I had the means to keep it...it was just too much of a toy. But it was a great toy!
