Insurance comparison between S2000 and Evo8?
One of the factors that will hold weight in my decision on buying the S2000 or Evo8 will be the cost of insurance. I've gotten quotes on the S2000 before, but I cannot find a website that will give me an approximate rate on the Evo8. None of the companies even list the Lancer Evolution.
So for those who own both cars, do you know how much it varies between the two cars? If you don't mind, can you list how much your rates are on each car? Is the S2000 significantly higher to insure than the Evo8?
For those who work for an insurance company, would you mind running a rate on both cars for me? Here are my stats:
location: Houston, TX
age: 21 male
student with good grades
took defensive driving for discount
clean driving record

I got a PM on this even tho I do not own either car.
This is really a science when it comes to insurance quotes. Your best bet is to ask around for you shall find a HUGE range of prices for people with the similiar car and with/without similar driving records. It's just the nature of the best. Your best bet is to ask for a "general" quote where you know the make/model of the car but not the VIN # (obviously). I have found a range for my car (96 VR-4) to be from 1,800 (GEICO) to 4,000 (AllState). It really depends on lots of things. Since you are under 25, your going to have a difficult time finding a really good rate. I am from NY so things are a bit different here as well. I would suggest getting an aftermarket alarm, taking your 6 hour driving course, etc to help with the reduction. You should just call around and get quote after quote until you can make this decision on your own.

I'm in Houston and under 25, an ex-student with good grades, and pay $660 every 6 months from Geico for an S-2000 (of course, my fiance (also <25) is the main driver, as she drives the car a lot....). I would try to call Geico and let them know your interested in qoutes, but can't find an Evo on their website. Either they'll get you a qoute on the Evo or they'd have to just call it a Lancer....and then I'm sure you'd know which one will be cheaper.
You also get a discount for owning Berkshire Hathaway stock w/ Geico. Not sure how much disposable money you have around, but brkb is a reasonably good investment and you get an insurance discount to boot. I think you only need to own 1 share of stock, which is currently about 2,400 for class b brk stock).

I can't imagine the Evo insurance being more expensive than the S. Our higher base price, convertable, 2-seater profile is insurance-unfriendly.
My rates went up about 20% last year so I've shopped around and amazingly enough my current carrier (Liberty Mutual) is still the cheapest for me. There must be a huge regional difference (Houston to LA) because I'm paying almost the same as J-Ho but Geico (and Progressive, and Esurance, and ...) wants about 50% more. And I'm an old guy -- 40 with low annual miles and a clean record.

my evo with full insurance for an entire year is only $400.... which is about what my original S2000 was.... then a bunch of dillholes started wrecking and stealing s2000's, so my insurance on my second S2000 was something like $650.
I would imagine the same happening to the Evo..... $400 now $600+ soon....
Scot
just in case you were wondering...(i sold my first S2000...no wrecks for me. )
