I havent driven either but Ive sat in both and messed with them a bit, and I really like the newer Fits 
but I dont really like the Insight...
I do like the Insight better then the Prius but thats another subjuct.

I'd get an ancient Hatch/CRX/Civic. It's basically the same car minus the updated interior/exterior. I think Honda Fit's are a total waste of money.
You're paying for a gutless Honda that looks cute. HEEEYYYY, you can get the same result with a car 15 years older and save $14k + better gas mileage. No brainer unless you're heavily image conscious.

new insight = better safety, more reliable, under warranty, comfort ...etc.
that said i'd take the fit cuz they handle great
