Incorrect vin and carfax search.
Okay so I just went and met with a guy about trading my damaged s2000 for his 02 Rsx type s with 45k miles. Before meeting I asked for a vin and he sent me a pic of his title an hour later. I couldn't run a carfax Bc I was in class. So when I went to meet him we checked out the cars and right when we were about to sign titles over he asked his buddy what he thought of the trade... His buddy started grinning from ear to ear and said he liked the s2000... I was a little skeptical after that because the guy was so interested in the trade and my car has about 2k worth of damages and his car was MINT... So I decided to run a free carfax from nicb.org. It said the car was in the salvage title history due to theft/stripped... He told me the title was clean... The guy was the original owner from 0 miles and his name was correct on the title because I know a friend who is friends with him on Facebook. He started saying how the people messed up when entering the vehicles Vin into car fax and they should have taken it off and this was after we had already gone over everything about the cars through text... But I didn't use carfax... I passed on the trade for now but idk what to do.. Could they have fooled carfax? Or could he be telling the truth... Idk what to believe because his shady friend kept smiling and he was so eager to trade. Could I call my insurance and give them the vin and see what they say??? Idk... Thanks ahead for anyone who has their input.
