Default impulse buying

So, I got a deal on a year end 2011 335d for the wife (~$8,200 off MSRP). (she drives a LOT of highway miles and currently takes the RDX which only gets about 20mpg on a tank...this will be a substantial improvement)
Black/Black, had them swap out the woodgrain for aluminum trim, sport pkg, premium pkg, and some random options.
Pics to come

Nice choice. My wife loves the 3 series, it is her favorite car but she will only drive economy cars and does not want to dig into her monthly shoe budget. Looking forward to a review and what kind of mileage you get. I would love for her to maybe splurge enough to buy a low mile lease return but she loves the new Focus.

Her employer gives her an extremely generous monthly car allowance but she just treats it as extra cash and buys econoboxes that are "cute". It's her choice but I would love to have a comfortable long hauler with good mileage that would last a long time. We take the Highlander on trips and it gets 25-26 but I'd like to do better with a more engaging driving experience than Toyota mush.

Sounds like a great new car. I have a general BMW question. Are BMWs starting to suffer from the old domestic car pricing where you had really high MSRPs but before you even asked they have already knocked a bunch of cash off? It just seems like every BMW post includes a large discount. Of course, a 335 is going to be a higher end car so perhaps it's just that there is enough padding on top but forget about that sort of discount on the 325. Anyway, I haven't looked so I'm just wondering if this sort of discount would be typical or rare.

Did you put this up on TOV as well? Either way, great choice! I looked for one for a while but used prices were high and availability was low. Maybe in a few years. My wife has been wanting a 3-Series so maybe this would work well for her instead.

Nope...I am monogamous with my car websites....(with an occasional cheat to clublexus)

I don't think so...none of the other models were as heavily discounted and when asked (even about an upgrade to a 5 series), he was honest and said we're going to get a WAY better deal on the 335d. They had 22 of the 335d on the lot and I want to say 18 335i units...so they are heavy on inventory going into the back half of the year.

I do think in general discount are more common now than they were when the economy didn't suck, but it isn't like the american trucks where you get it at 0% for 84 months and 10,000 off sticker and free gas for life...lol

I think I'm going to drive the Lexus for a while. Every time I think about cars, I keep coming back to the 911 GTS. It's what I REALLY want. I'm not ready to do it now and it will be a few years until it comes out...so maybe by the time there is a 991 GTS available I'll be ready.
I love the lexus and it has been stone cold reliable, and drives just like it did 40,000 miles ago...and it isn't really outdated on any electronics yet...so I'm good sitting where I'm at until the time is right.

Wow 22 335d's? Thats odd. Whenever I would run a search new and used there was less than half that here in AZ. I would love one of those as the DD or for my fiance. Can't really beat 40 MPG and like 400 ft lbs of torque. Really nice pick up. Why no pics of the new car??
