Default Import Legality Petition

Please read it through and if you think it's necessary to change the current law of Import Legality, sign it and spread it! Let's at least give it a try and see what happens

The issue with DOT standards and the EPA is what really hinders importing certian vehicles. There is really no way you can petition that away.

Changing it to 15 years instead of 25 is very possible. Nobody's expecting the EPA/DOT/NHTSA to just open the doors to any and all cars. I agree that the chances of it happening are slim, though.

What Motorex did has nothing to do with this petition. Motorex got caught illegally importing cars. This petition aims to alter the standards for importing cars.

I can't wait for 2015 to come around. After that it's all up hill. The 90s were full of awesome JDM cars, and once the 25 yr cap runs out, the only issue is actually finding a clean car to ship over.

You can legally import and drive a car that is 25 years or older that wasn't intended for the US market without having to change anything. They are petitioning to change it from 25 years to 15 years. It would open up access to a ton of cars (think JDM Skylines, Supra, RX7, 300ZX, etc), AUS/Euro models, etc.

Otherwise, while you can import some models that weren't EPA/DOT approved - you are limited to show cars/track cars (offroad use only).
