The same reason Lamborghini can charge $160K for the Gallardo when a Z06 with intake and exhaust can hang and even slightly pull on one, even from a dig....it's a supercar and has exotic looks/materials and a unique ownership experience.

There is so much more to a car than just its numbers.

Did anyone hear about the recall on all Ford GT-40's?

Suspension control arms were cast incorrectly, causing control arms to snap in half! Ford has to compensate all GT-40 owners who already took delivery!

Not to be an idiot and try to start a flame war, but I agree with you and think that anyone that owns an S2000 should too.

When you look at an S2000's numbers, torque, straight line speed, 1/4 mile times, the car is not all that impressive.

Hop in one, push it to its limits and it is a hell of a lot more fun than many cars that cost A LOT more and also ones that put up a lot better numbers.

I agree that a Ford GT is really cool, and I am one that would never consider a Vette or a Viper. It is not to say that there is anything wrong with either, in fact I think the new Vette is a great bargain and an awesome car. I am also pretty much a Ford hater, but I'd take a GT in half a second.

Just my $.02.

With only $20K, you could get an SRT-4 that's faster than an S2000, but the fun and driving experience in the S2000 is almost unbeatable for any amount of money.

...Also there was a fuel tank vapor leak problem affecting 45 cars, and Ford is advising their dealership mechanics to repair GTs with a "speedi sleeve" to correct engine oil leaks from the crankshaft rear seal. I find it amazing that something like this could happen to such an expensive, supposedly high-tech car.

I'm not going to leap a conclusion yet and call it a "Ford at heart," but I would say that I think they rushed the production schedule a little bit. If they had spent a little more time getting it perfect, they certainly would have caught those two BIG faults (control arms and oil leaks) before starting production.

The control arms never broke. After additional internal testing Ford decided there was a risk of failure on customer cars (risk, no actual failures) and issued the recall. I'm sure this wouldn't have been an issue on a regular car but given the likelihood that a GT will be driven like a racecar it was a good idea.
Regardless of why the crank started leaking, the fix is quite practical. If I were the owner I would rather that fix (which works and has no drawbacks) than replacing the crank which involves pulling the engine apart.

Also, the GT motor is related to the Lightning's motor but it's not the same. Both are Modular family motors but the GT's has stronger internals and a unique block. Rumor has it the motor produces ~610hp.
