Also, lulz at the Gallardo comments =D
Personally I'd stick to something in the $30k-50k range at the most, and adjust for possibly bailing on the cheap room/roommate (the greatest car in the world is no substitute for your own digs).

depends on where you live. in palo alto/san jose/sf that's a take home starting wage as good programmer at an thriving software company like say meebo...
But, money doesn't go far there so it's even to the regular starting salaries in other cities. It's tempting to think that's a lot of money, but it's really not.
I'm not one to criticize as out of college I bought my s2000 and spent a lot on track days etc while living in a nice apartment and going out every weekend, etc. It didn't destroy my chances of retiring, but i may have to work longer or just make more money in the next 10 years. I'm working on the latter by starting my own company for the second time. Who knows if that will actually pay out.
The post does reek of post-whore-ness, but it doesn't mean something good can't be gleaned from it. 6000/take home, imo is not S5, M3, etc kind of money....not even close unless you have some kind of back up, family money, company you are going to sell soon, etc.
edit: something in the 30k range seems more appropriate and smarter then something in the 60-100k range.

HELP ME S2KI!!! I have no clue what to do in life! I walked in on my wife sleeping with another man. Should I kick her to the curb or give her a 2nd chance.
Buy a toyota corolla with 2 months of your salary and invest and save your money so you don't look back on your life and say "damn i was fuckin schmuck, i made pretty good money and didn't save up a penny of it, instead I blew it all on a S5, strippers and lots of cocaine."

I would buy a Civic, then fly as often as possible to the neat places in the world and see what there is to see.
