If you could choose: AP2 S2000 vs E36 M3

Tough crowd.
Badging has been more of a condition of worth rather than an interjected value of mine.
I was leaning towards the S2000 more, but i want to get the opinion of people who actually owned them.
I compiled that list from what other people had to say about the cars.
I have always had a soft spot for both cars, and the Honda badge doesn't effect me. I'd pick up a clean EG over an E46 any day.
I've never been a fan of convertibles, but the the performance that the S2000 delivers, it seems like something pedantic compared to the complete package that said car offers.

Do you like to drive? That's the most important thing. If so, there is only one answer.
By now the E36 is a bucket of creaks and broken pieces... An AP2 will be tight and trouble free.
It's a no brainer for me. I've owned an AP1 and put almost 100k on it. I sold it and bought a MKV GTI about a year later because daily driving a full on national level build STS CRX was getting a little old. I kept the GTI for about 7 months and now I'm back in an AP2 and building it for STR (a new street tire auto-x class) and I'm LOVING the car. It's such a connected sports car and if you can tune a chassis, it can be very potent in the turns.

I love to drive. I drive alot.
And i'm starting to do more and more track days. I was able to keep up a 996 C4S's and a Lotus Elise at Buttonwillow 1CW in my automatic 180hp E46 with only coilovers, i'm ready to upgrade to something that's light, fun, and reliable.
I wanted to get a first hand opinion on the s2000, since i don't own one and i don't know anything about them.
I'm sorry if i came off as pretentious or a BMW fanboy, but i'm far from it. I'm really pushing for the Honda.
I'm more of a "handling" car guy as opposed to a "raw power" guy. I'd rather have a light car than a 500+ hp car. So it seems like an S2000 would be perfect.

i was in the same spot as you, OP... except i was comparing boxster S with s2000...
im sure you've already figured out my result, and have zero regrets...
as soon as i test drove my friend's s2k AFTER the boxster S, decision was clear...
the s2k handled just the same as the porsche, but the price difference as well as the maintenance cost did it for me...
and who else has 9k rpms? but you're deciding on an ap2, so 1k less is not too shabby...

That seems like a pretty big price difference as well?
Yea. I was astonished at how well the AP2 drove. I loved the 8.2k redline, but hated the no torque, but it'll keep my lead foot at bay.
Thanks for the info, Mashi.
