Ideas for a long-term beater?

The problem is that there's no idea here on a price range. The obvious choice would seem to be a used WRX, but as stated above, we have no idea if that's in a reasonable price range.
I'll second the vote on a Vibe GT as well. But again, not an old car that you can get much of a discount on.

I bought my beater brand new in October, 1992.
Of course, I've been letting by beater rest in the driveway since my son went to Scotland in April. His (my) '92 Accord with 140,000 miles is getting the commuter run job these days.

I think the Legend is a very nice car actually. I would go with that for the beater. Plus if you get a 1995 with the Type II engine you get 230-235 hp over the normal 210 hp. And I think it is 210 TQ on both. Plus the interior is good, car is built well, handles "alright" and is damn reliable. Lots of space, and is fast for what it is.
