The only thing I can see possibly coming out (or may be in research already) is a variation of this idea.
Where noise cancelling technology is used to cancel the outside/engine noise....somehow producing similar sound out of phase or something.

per the OP, why not just buy a better car? Save your pennies, get the hell rid of the Corolla POS, and buy something that has a nice engine for real? It's not like a Corolla is a nice car except for the engine :/
