If your Dad made any of those suggestions he is biting off more than you will be able to chew , i promise you that.
Its not just that they are so quick , a sport bike will lead you into trouble and will not be forgiving when things start to go wrong .
Good luck with whatever bike you end up with , can i ask you to drill this little ditty into your mind , it has saved me a couple of times
( oh stop press , England are now leading france 1-0 in the Euro Champs )
when you go into a corner too hot , dont panic brake , remember ,
" if a bike is going to make the bend with the brakes on , , it will piss round it in total control with them off "

not sure where you learned that an f4i is any less dangerous (sporty but not too much) than an R6.
YOU wont be able to tell the difference in power between them......

Check out this link re: a 16 year old and his new CBR F4i.

the above link notwithstanding, one idea to consider is to get a bike, but only for the track. take the MSF, then take a track school. While you can certainly get seriously hurt (or killed!) on a track, it's a more controlled environment, i.e. no trees or lincoln towncars to hit. I'll probably be flamed for suggesting the above, but I think it's a better, more pragmatic alternative to riding on the street. Plus, no amount of talking or crash pix is going to dissuade someone in his position from getting a bike. good luck.
