Recently there was a 1994 348 Challenge (1 of 32 imported, this one was one of the handful not converted to race spec) for sale here in Houston. 20K miles or something like that, all major services done.
They wanted $60K. The eBay auction lasted for about a week, and then it sold for the BIN price. A day later, I saw it parked on the street, with the dealer tags, right down the street from where I work. I was very tempted to go into the coffee shop where it was parked and try to find the owner...
Now, you may say, $60K for a 348 is too much, especially since the 348 wasn't exactly one of Ferrari's most shining moments. But, I was still tempted. I figured: if you're like me, and know that you're going to need to "get a Ferrari out of your system in your lifetime"...
You could buy a car like that, drive it sparingly for a year, maybe spend a couple thousand on maintenance in that year, and then sell it. I'd bet that you'd get the $60K that you spent, if not more. This was an _extremely_ rare car, in great shape, and still a Ferrari.
I'm also willing to bet that you could do the same with the original poster's 355. I don't think that 355 prices are going down much anytime soon, especially if you don't rack up many miles and keep the car in good shape. Spend a couple thousand on maintenance and then sell the car when you're tired of it. Not a bad way to go to drive a Ferrari around for a while...

There are 2 type of people who buys Ferraris: Those who buy it for superficial reasons- show off, get laid, latest new toy etc etc. Vs. those who worship the house of Ferrari.
If you are a true Tifosi - then you pay to play. The ridiculous maintenance costs, headaches, insurance, and paranoia are part of the "charm" of owning a Ferrari. The costs and service history help guarantee good resale. The F360 is a ALOT more reliable then a F355 and therefore a more reasonable option.
Remember the 996 GT3 kicks the F360CS's butt in ALL performance catergories. Doesn't matter, The F360CS is a work of automotive art. It has the do with the styling, sound, feel and visceral sensations that come with owning one. That is why Ferrari is God!!!(sorry Jon).

If you cannot afford two, do not buy one.
This is the rule to follow when deciding on the purchase of an exotic. And really, it would only really be a fun car to own if you could drive it the way it was meant to be driven, and didn't have to worry about what might break.

Nope, I want to be able to drive it all over, and when it needs some engine-out maintenance work... the only thing I want to bum me out is how long it'll be before I get to drive it again.
